Beginning on Tuesday 7/25, the Front Range Climbing Stewards will be starting a month-long project at Canal Zone. They will be working to protect and harden the base area beneath Box of Rain at the east side of the crag (lookers left). This work will involve harvesting and quarrying rock from all around the crag, transporting it to the work-site and building retaining structures and belay platforms. Because of the proximity to the climbing area, some routes may be temporarily closed as the team works. If you see the team out there, first give them a kudos for their hard work, then ask where they would prefer for you to climb or not climb.
Please give this team space as they work. Expect temporary closures Monday-Friday from 7am-5pm over the next four to six weeks.
On a similar note, if you’re interested in giving back to your local areas, consider volunteering on this project. Additional details and registration can be found here; as the saying goes “many hands makes light and safe work”.
